Kathmandu, Sept 4: Minister for Water Supply, Pradip Yadav, has spoken of the need to develop climate-resilient infrastructures for coping with challenges posed by climate change and combating its impacts.
Speaking at a workshop on “How to Make Infrastructure in the Hindu Kush Himalayas Climate Resilient,” organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) here today, he underlined the need of promoting development of climate-resilient infrastructures to tackle with challenges posed by climate change.
He also commended the ADB’s study on the climate change-induced issues in the Hindu Kush regions, acknowledging the continuous support from the ADB to the Ministry.
Referring to the 2022 floods from the Melamchi River in Sindhupalchowk, he pressed the need to implement a development project with a new perspective to cope with potential risk of the climate change.
Yadav stressed the need of multi-risk assessments, early warning systems, financial management and regional cooperation for climate-resilient infrastructure development. Describing the ADB as a trusted development partner of Nepal, he expressed confidence that such partnership would be further strengthened in the days ahead.
The event was attended by Bhutanese representative Govind Sharma, heads of various ministries and development partners of Nepal, experts, and other representatives.
The workshop is expected to make a significant contribution to developing the climate-resilient infrastructure and in the risk reduction.
